Our bodies and our dreams, how are they related?
63% women let go of their dreams because of the judgement on our bodies. Our bodies, ourselves.
Our bodies and our dreams, how are they related?
Did you know?
There was a time in my life after being a mother, where I stopped saying 'yes' to public appearances like conducting in person workshops and speaking gigs.
I felt horrible in my postpartum body and appearance.
I had lost a lot of weight suddenly after delivery. My hairline was receding. And I looked like a skeleton.
I was losing confidence in my ability to capture crowds with my voice and wisdom because of the fear of judgement. It was not a very good place to be in.
And many of my clients today say 'no' to public appearances, being on stage, giving that talk because they feel judged too. Women's bodies go through a lot of scrutiny and we can feel that immensely.
I started giving excuses,
"My baby is too young".
"I can't pump my milk".
"I don't feel ready yet".
Only to be extremely frustarted at the end of 3 months saying 'no'.
I had to find a way. I could not hide anymore. It was sickening and frustrating.
The moment you decide to change, get uncomfortable and address the discomfort.....magic happens π₯π«
I asked myself, "What am I going to regret later? Not being on that stage mersmerising people? Or being at home hiding sulking over my dreams not being fulfilled?"
Of course the answer was crystal clear.I would be lying if I said, my looks did not bother me at all. It did. So I worked on my dressing and a hairdo where I looked the best I could at that time. It made me feel a little bit more confident.
Lastly, I asked myself if I am here on the stage for my looks or for the knowledge I have? I practiced hard for my sessions.
3 months later, I said 'yes' to my first corporate engagement post delivering my baby and conducted an in person meditation workshop.
Let's make our bodies our sacred vessels of love and not objects of judgement.
Here are some ways to bring confidence in our body, especially for moms -
Bringing gratitude to this body which has birthed. Birthing is not easy. Carrying a baby inside you for 9 months, stretching your skin, cells and soul to hold the baby is not a joke. Your body is this sacred vessel and deserves so much more.
Sit in this feeling. Is there any relationship between the way our bodies look and our innate gifts? Obviously no, then why are we giving so much importance to the body appearance.
A good exercise to reinforce this belief is making a list of your gifts and skills. And then asking yourself this question, "Is this gift dependent or related to how my body looks?"Practice bringing acceptance your body. You are more than your body. And the world cannot keep you small because of the way your body looks.
Let me ask you now, "How do you feel in your body?" π
