My lessons from a year of committing to a habit

Committing to a habit is not about perfection. It is rather about showing up according to your season.

My lessons from a year of committing to a habit

This is my 52nd week of writing my weekly newsletter to you all. Darn, it has been a year that we are together. Me writing my heart out to you. And it feels such a joyous and celebratory moment for me.

I love writing. And these newsletters have been an avenue for me to write the long form. Where there are no limits on words. I can speak my heart out with no restrcition. Every newsletter was like a heartfelt letter written to all of you.

But I have been always motivated to write this newsletter. No.
Have I still ensured I wrote this newsletter. yes.

And so I wanted to come in here and share my lessons on being consistent with this habit of mine:

  • I kept a goal with habit which was doable. Writing the newsletter once a week felt breezy and easy. It did not build pressure or stress in my body.
So to begin with a habit, keep a goal which feels doable.

  • Perfection Vs Consistency
There have been weeks when writing once a week also felt daunting. During those weeks, I showed up. But I showed up with what energy I had and not my 200%.
Showing up is important in whatever energy you might be in rather than skipping altogether.

  • I repurposed my older already written content in some weeks. Most of the times we have this notion of doing all of it on our own or doing it from scratch. You can actually think about ways in which you can work smarter.
Ask for help from people around you to stay put on your habit.

  • The secret to all commitment lies in the way in which you begin. It is the energy behind your actions that creates your future rather than the action themselves.

Without commitment, action lacks power or direction.

And do you know the secret behind being committed? No it is not just mindset.

A committed person is actually the one who has opened up a deep connection to the direction of the life force within.

    Let that sink in.

And when you get tuned into your life force, commitment becomes a π™™π™šπ™«π™€π™©π™žπ™€π™£.

  • When I changed my language around habits, it changed my entire world.

There is a perspective which can change the way you look at any habit you want to inculcate.

And that is - β€œStart viewing a habit as a PRIVILEGE rather than a PUNISHMENT”

Being grateful that you have the resources and a body which can inculcate a habit. That you have the income to join that exercise class. That your body is still capable of moving. That you have friends and a community to inspire you for that habit.

Be GRATEFUL each day that you can move your body or meditate or have that nourishing food. There would be so many people out there who would want to have this privilege.

So get into a "π—œ π—šπ—˜π—§ 𝗧𝗒" instead of "I HAVE TO" mindset and see the shift.

It's time for a PARADIGM shift in the way you look and feel about habits.

  • Lastly, in order to really realise the tangible benefits of any habit or a ritual, give it enough time. A year minimum. I now have a repository of 52 most heart driven writings of mine which I keep on referring to people to get a head start with navigating the different seasons in their life.
I refined my art of writing with each new piece.
And the best part is so many of you keep on telling me that my writing hits a chord inside you. That you love to read my pieces.

There is this inner sense of accomplishment which is washing inside me. And I know I am going to continue writing to all of you for many years altogether.

I want to thank each one of you, for reading my work. For providing me this opportunity to be in your inbox every Sunday and making me part of your day and energy. I want to thank you for allowing me in your world through my writings.

Till we meet next week, be a part of my celebration πŸ™‚
